2-STEP SPARRING

(Ibo Matsogi)

2-Step Sparring is a more advanced type of sparring from 3-Step Sparring.  The purpose is to bring the student closer to actuall free sparring.  It is designed to teach the Intermediate levels of Taekwon-Do how to attack and defend with a lower risk of injury and obtain a better idea of angles and distances for attacking and defending.

The principle of 2-Step Sparring is to demonstrate different combinations of techniques where as 3-Step Sparring is the same attack technique and the same defense technique performed for all three steps.  This would include techniques such as a foot technique followed by a hand technique, a hand technique followed by a foot technique, 2-different foot techniques or two different hand techniques (which can also be performed in different stances.

BLACKBURN TAEKWON-DO's TRAINING CURRICULUM.

The rules of 2-Step Sparring is as follows:

PART A - THE MEASURE

1) The attacker and the defender perform the first movement of the

series in slow motion to set-up the sequence.

PART B - PERFORMING 2-STEP SPARRING

1) The attacker's ready position is to move the right leg to the rear

to form a Right L-Stance with a Left Middle Fore-arm Guarding

Block.  The attacker should ki-up at the moment of blocking to

    symbolize his/her readiness to attack.

2) The defender's ready posture is a Parallel Ready Stance.  The

Defender should ki-up after the attacker when ready to defend.

This ki-up provides the attacker with the permission to proceed

    with the exercise.

3) After the 2-Steps, the defender should be ready to perform

his/her counter attack.  At the moment of striking, the defender

should ki-up to symobize the end of the exercise as well as gather

the necessary power to demonstrate that this movement would

    also finish the opponent.

4) To return to the ready posture, the attacker should bring the

front leg back and the defender returns the back leg forward,

both to perform Parallel Ready Stance.
